Our Advice For You on Closing Day
How can closing companies help buyers and sellers? Find out today.
Today, I’m talking with Christina Mitchell, a director of new business development at Universal Title. With such great talent with me, I figured it would be the perfect time to go over what a closing company is and how they help you.
So Christina, what is a closing company?
A closing company’s job is to make sure property passes legally from the seller to the buyer in a real estate transaction. We also make sure there are no liens, injunctions, or anything else that could interfere with the closing process.
Who selects the closing company, and how do they do it?
In Virginia, it’s customary for the buyer to choose the closing company. You can always ask friends and family for a good company, but agents are also a great resource.
"Bringing a checkbook is a great way to make sure things go smoothly."
When it comes to closing, what tips can you give to buyers?
My number one tip is to come with valid photo identification. Whether it's a driver’s license or passport, you need to bring unexpired identification. Beyond that, you should bring a checkbook. You never know what’s going to happen, and having payment ready is a great way to make sure things go smoothly.
What should sellers know about closing day?
I would recommend all the same advice for sellers, but also make sure you have the necessary documents unique to sellers.
I would like to thank Christina for her time. If you have any questions about today’s topic or anything else related to real estate, please reach out to me. I am always looking to help!
